2019-03-02 by RGP FOUNDATIONTo expose disadvantaged children to new ways of learning both in the classroom and at the village, special sessions in science and mathematics were conducted in Govt. high school, Nedunuru in association with Silver Oaks International School, Hyderabad, Bengalore and vizag Many children perceive science and mathematics to be something tough and negative. The teachers can play a big role in changing this view. They can tell students how science has changed the world and say interesting things about the subject. They can encourage the students by showing different scientific experiment. If a student sees that the teacher is knowledgeable and passionate about science, then they will try to follow their footsteps. Students should be involved in science at an early stage and try to make it fun and interesting. Showing hands-on experiments can grow the interest in the children. The students should be shown how science is used in everyday lives. The natural curiosity about science to be created in the students’ mind. It canbe done so by connecting science to daily lives. To make them understand science better, the foundation came up with exploitative and creative opportunities. Creativity is not rare, though it cannot be taught, but we can be exposed to creative surroundings to nurture that innate seed into a fully grown tree. Creativity is just like joining the dots, what vary is how we see at the dots and the environment in which we are to see them differently. So foundation chalked out plan of implementing activities that are already in their syllabus but in an innovative way. Activity based learning helps the students to nurture the innate seed of creativity. Role -plays, flash cards and learning through playing are the key tools tried to spark the children innate creativity in terms of science. The main tool for giving opportunity to question and express themselves for students increasing student participation in class room session. While increasing participation is an obvious goal in courses that include frequent discussions and small-group work. In short, if only a few students participate by volunteering answers, asking questions, or contributing to discussions, class sessions become to some extent a lost opportunity to assess and promote learning. Student participation in course can be increased by devoting time and thought to shaping the environment and planning each class session.
